The David Bowie Collection

Pretty Green was founded by Liam Gallagher he wanted to create a clothing line that celebrated the best of British Music and it heroes, from the likes of John Lennon to the Beatles and now David Bowie, David Bowies music and style inspired a generation to be different, to be an individual, to this day David Bowie still is an inspiration to music lovers and young fashionistas around the world, one man who was at the start of the glam rock movement was  legendary rock and roll photographer Mick Rock, he is famous for creating iconic shots of such bands like  The Sex Pistols, Queen, Blondie, Roxy Music, Thin Lizzy, his most memorable images are of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust in his roles as Bowie`s photographer.

Mick Rock

They originally met in 1972, it was during this time he created some of the most iconic shots of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, this was the time David Bowie was experimenting with make up and mime also his crazy outlandish stage costumes, people had never seen any thing like it, some men thought Bowie was a women with his long hair and make up, he went on to inspire a generation of people, it’s from this period that Pretty Green and Mick Rock have collaborated together to create a range of limited T-shirts from Micks pictures of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust.

Hunky Dory

The Hunky Dory tee is named after David Bowie’s 4th studio album, released in 1971. The print has been designed and developed in-house and each one has been uniquely screen printed.

“This design is basically the art that Mick produced in early 1990. Based on an image from the now classic saxophone session. The artwork was inspired by the famous Andy Warhol multiple overlapping Elvis Presley holding a gun art piece, always one of my favourite Warhols

Diamond Dog

The Diamond Dogs tee is named after David Bowie’s 8th studio album, released in 1974. The print has been designed and developed in-house and each one has been uniquely screen printed.

“The photo was taken during one of the last shows of David’s first ever US Tour in December 1972. It is also featured in the live footage sections of the music video for ‘Jean Genie” (which I directed!). It’s one of Micks fave Ziggy jackets. he never knew who designed it. During the 21 months that he shot him as Ziggy Stardust from early March 1972 at Birmingham Town Hall to late October 1973 during his Midnight Special ‘1980 Floor Show’, he wore 74 different outfits by Micks estimation.”

Spiders From Mars

The Spiders From Mars tee is named after David Bowie’s 5th studio album, released in 1972. The print has been designed and developed in-house and each one has been uniquely screen printed.

“The original shot was taken on the very last Ziggy Stardust tour. UK, June 1973. The costume was made by his favourite Japanese costume designer Kansai Yamamoto. It looks like there are tears running down his right cheek on the original photo, although it’s hard to determine here because of the repeat effect on the tee design. In reality, it’s sweat! In the late 80’s Mick started to play around with some of his photos, and he put the original into a sepia line effect. The design of this tee is based on the photo art.”

The Heroes tee is named after David Bowie’s 12th studio album, released in 1977. The print has been designed and developed in-house and each one has been uniquely screen printed.

“The shot is from the saxophone session that he produced, images for the back cover and inside sleeve of the ‘Pinups’ album package, shot in August 1973. Mick was also the art director of the package. The saxophone was significant for David, because it was his first instrument. His mother bought him one when he was 13.”
